My background in a nutshell:
I'm American and live in Berlin. I grew up in Germany and have spent over 30 years here.

After attending the University of Maryland European Campus in Munich, I covered all bases in the travel sector during the 1980s - from local guide in West Berlin, to tour director for groups traveling through East Bloc countries and to destinations as far afield as Colombia, to interpreter for convention organizers and corporate travel companies.

I then gradually shifted my focus to the written word. For the past twelve years, I've been providing German-English translation services to business customers and translation companies.

My decision to specialize in IT and telecommunications arose from a major project in 1994 and 1995 in which I translated over 250,000 words of material provided to the U.S. Department of Justice as a part of the approval proceedings for a proposed merger of Deutsche Telekom and Sprint. This project – which included material ranging from technical documentation and white papers to minutes of board meetings – proved to be a unique insight into the workings of Europe's largest telecommunications company.

In 1998, I passed the certification examination of the American Translators Association, the most widely recognized quality benchmark for translators in the United States.
